About gold in Pakistan
Pakistan’s gold market combines jewellery buying with gold as a store-of-value asset. The Competition Commission of Pakistan’s 2025 assessment describes jewellery as the largest demand segment and notes that 24K bars and coins are traded as standardized bullion. The same report identifies Sarafa bazaars in Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar as important trading centres. Source: Competition Commission of Pakistan, Gold Report (2025).
Market notes for Pakistan
KmalServico’s Pakistan page is configured around tola as its primary weight. A standard international tola is about 11.6638g, but Pakistan’s market has documented local variation, including references to a 12.5g market tola. The Competition Commission of Pakistan explicitly records this lack of a single formally defined metric value. Compare a dealer quote only after confirming which tola convention is being used. KmalServico also shows gram, troy-ounce and kilogram conversions.
Buying gold in Pakistan
For a jewellery quote, separate three things: weight, purity and the metal rate. 22K is not interchangeable with 24K, and a per-tola quote cannot be compared directly with a per-gram quote. Sharp price rises in recent years have pushed some Pakistani families toward lighter or imitation pieces for weddings — industry sources cited in local press have described falling demand for traditional gold sets as rates approached Rs400,000 per tola. KmalServico provides the live reference price and unit conversions so the underlying gold value can be checked before comparing a retail quotation.
Tax and duty notes for Pakistan
Locally manufactured articles of jewellery -- or parts thereof -- of precious metal or of metal clad with precious metal carry a 3% sales tax under the Sales Tax Act's Eighth Schedule (Table-1, Serial 78, HS heading 71.13), with no input tax adjustment; this specific provision has been unamended since Finance Act 2022. Imported jewellery and imitation jewellery not covered by the Eighth Schedule are a separate case, carrying a 25% sales tax under SRO 297(I)/2023 -- the SRO itself explicitly excludes goods already covered by the Eighth Schedule, so the 3% and 25% rates apply to different goods, never simultaneously to the same item. Jewellery and gold coins/medallions are capital assets under the Income Tax Ordinance 2001 (Sections 37(5) and 38(5)): a gain on their disposal is chargeable under the capital-gains provisions, while a loss on these specific asset types cannot be recognized under Section 38(5). Plain gold bullion or bars are not addressed by the same provisions, so their capital-gains treatment is not established here. Those observing Zakat also owe 2.5% annually on gold at or above the Nisab threshold of 7.5 tola, roughly 87.5 grams.

Gold Price in Pakistan — FAQs
Why is gold often quoted per tola in Pakistan?
Tola is a traditional gold-trade unit used in Pakistan. KmalServico uses tola as the Pakistan page’s primary configured unit and also provides gram and other conversions. Because documented local variation exists, confirm the exact tola convention behind any dealer quote.
What should I check before comparing two Pakistani gold prices?
Match the purity, weight unit and currency first. A 22K jewellery quote and a 24K bullion quote are not directly comparable, and a per-tola price should be converted before comparing it with a per-gram price.

Methodology
How we calculate the price
- We fetch the international spot gold price (XAU/USD) live from gold-api.com, with automatic failover between providers.
- The spot rate is converted into the local currency using live exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com, then scaled by purity (24K, 22K, 18K…) and by weight (gram, tola, ounce, kilogram, baht).
- The result is the pure spot value. Retail counters may add dealer premium, tax and making charges — the number here is the underlying benchmark.
