Pakistan’s gold market combines jewellery buying with gold as a store-of-value asset. The Competition Commission of Pakistan’s 2025 assessment describes jewellery as the largest demand segment and notes that 24K bars and coins are traded as standardized bullion. A standard international tola is about 11.6638g, but Pakistan’s market has documented local variation, including references to a 12.5g market tola. The Competition Commission of Pakistan explicitly records this lack of a single formally defined metric value. Compare a dealer quote only after confirming which tola convention is being used. For a jewellery quote, separate three things: weight, purity and the metal rate. 22K is not interchangeable with 24K, and a per-tola quote cannot be compared directly with a per-gram quote. Sharp price rises in recent years have pushed some Pakistani families toward lighter or imitation pieces for weddings — industry sources cited in local press have described falling demand for traditional gold sets as rates approached Rs400,000 per tola. Registered jewellers charge 3% sales tax on documented jewellery sales in Pakistan's formal economy; buying from an undocumented dealer may avoid that line item but forfeits the paper trail needed for a later resale or dispute. Profit from selling personal investment gold isn't currently subject to capital gains tax, though holdings still have to be declared in the annual FBR wealth statement. Those observing Zakat also owe 2.5% annually on gold at or above the Nisab threshold of 7.5 tola, roughly 87.5 grams.

How we calculate the price
- We fetch the international spot gold price (XAU/USD) live from gold-api.com + xaus.com, with automatic failover between providers.
- The spot rate is converted into the local currency using live exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com, then scaled by purity (24K, 22K, 18K…) and by weight (gram, tola, ounce, kilogram, baht).
- The result is the pure spot value. Retail counters may add dealer premium, tax and making charges — the number here is the underlying benchmark.
