The ISO 4217 currency code for one troy ounce of gold.
Definition
XAU is the ISO code used to represent one troy ounce of gold as if it were a currency. XAU/USD therefore quotes how many US dollars are needed to buy one troy ounce of gold. FX platforms, banks and price providers all use XAU as the canonical gold ticker.
