Market notes

Uzbekistan is abolishing its VAT exemption on jewellery sales starting January 1, 2026, bringing all jewellery producers and sellers into the VAT system regardless of income level -- but with a transitional net-difference calculation method and an 80% automatic VAT reclaim available to businesses through 2028.

Buying gold in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan's jewellery tax treatment is mid-transition as of 2026 -- retailers can reclaim 80% of VAT paid through 2028 under the new rules, which may keep consumer-facing price increases smaller than the headline VAT change alone would suggest, at least during the transition period.

Tax & duty notes

Methodology

How we calculate the price

  • We fetch the international spot gold price (XAU/USD) live from xaus.com + gold-api.com, with automatic failover between providers.
  • The spot rate is converted into the local currency using live exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com, then scaled by purity (24K, 22K, 18K…) and by weight (gram, tola, ounce, kilogram, baht).
  • The result is the pure spot value. Retail counters may add dealer premium, tax and making charges — the number here is the underlying benchmark.
