About the Sweden gold market

Sweden's gold hallmarking system centres on the "Cat's Paw" (Kattfoten), a control mark used since the 16th century to certify precious-metal purity, alongside a mandatory name stamp registered with SWEDAC, Sweden's national accreditation authority, for any gold or platinum item over one gram. Unlike Germany's voluntary system, Swedish law requires hallmarking on precious-metal jewellery, placing Sweden among a small group of European countries — alongside Finland, Hungary, and Russia — with a compulsory marking requirement.

Methodology

How we calculate the price

  • We fetch the international spot gold price (XAU/USD) live from gold-api.com + xaus.com, with automatic failover between providers.
  • The spot rate is converted into the local currency using live exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com, then scaled by purity (24K, 22K, 18K…) and by weight (gram, tola, ounce, kilogram, baht).
  • The result is the pure spot value. Retail counters may add dealer premium, tax and making charges — the number here is the underlying benchmark.
