About the Philippines gold market

The Philippine central bank, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), is the sole legal buyer of gold from the country's small-scale miners under the People's Small-Scale Mining Act of 1991, and is also an LBMA-accredited refiner. Much of that refined gold supplies Meycauayan, Bulacan — a town long known as the jewellery-manufacturing capital of the Philippines for its gold filigree craftsmanship.

Methodology

How we calculate the price

  • We fetch the international spot gold price (XAU/USD) live from gold-api.com + xaus.com, with automatic failover between providers.
  • The spot rate is converted into the local currency using live exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com, then scaled by purity (24K, 22K, 18K…) and by weight (gram, tola, ounce, kilogram, baht).
  • The result is the pure spot value. Retail counters may add dealer premium, tax and making charges — the number here is the underlying benchmark.
