Kazakhstan's jewellery market commonly uses five hallmark standards -- 375 (9K), 585 (14K), 750 (18K), 875 (21K) and 916 (22K) -- a wider spread than markets that settle on one or two dominant purities. Almaty and Astana are the country's two main jewellery trading centres.

Kazakhstan's standard VAT rate rose from 12% to 16% as of January 2026, part of a broader tax code overhaul rather than a gold-specific change. That increase applies to the general consumption tax base and is worth factoring into any retail gold or jewellery purchase made after that date.

Methodology
How we calculate the price
- We fetch the international spot gold price (XAU/USD) live from xaus.com + gold-api.com, with automatic failover between providers.
- The spot rate is converted into the local currency using live exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com, then scaled by purity (24K, 22K, 18K…) and by weight (gram, tola, ounce, kilogram, baht).
- The result is the pure spot value. Retail counters may add dealer premium, tax and making charges — the number here is the underlying benchmark.
