View full history →About the France gold market
French gold jewellery of 18-karat purity (750/1000) traditionally carries the "tête d'aigle" (eagle's head) hallmark, introduced in 1838 and still used today. Unlike self-applied marks in some markets, French hallmarks are struck by the state's own assay authority, the Bureau de Garantie, after the metal is independently tested — part of a hallmarking tradition tracing back to 1275, making it one of the oldest continuously operating systems in the world.

Methodology
How we calculate the price
- We fetch the international spot gold price (XAU/USD) live from gold-api.com + xaus.com, with automatic failover between providers.
- The spot rate is converted into the local currency using live exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com, then scaled by purity (24K, 22K, 18K…) and by weight (gram, tola, ounce, kilogram, baht).
- The result is the pure spot value. Retail counters may add dealer premium, tax and making charges — the number here is the underlying benchmark.
