View full history →About the Austria gold market
Austrian law (the Punzierungsgesetz, or Hallmarking Act) sets a notably high minimum: gold jewellery must be at least 585/1000 (14 karat) to be legally hallmarked and sold as gold in Austria. Austria has also given a name to a specific, well-documented gold-buying scam known as "Autobahngold" ("highway gold"), where counterfeit hallmarked rings are sold to unsuspecting drivers at motorway rest stops using urgent, high-pressure stories — common enough that Austrian jewellers routinely warn customers to have any purchased piece independently re-tested rather than trust the hallmark alone.

Methodology
How we calculate the price
- We fetch the international spot gold price (XAU/USD) live from gold-api.com + xaus.com, with automatic failover between providers.
- The spot rate is converted into the local currency using live exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com, then scaled by purity (24K, 22K, 18K…) and by weight (gram, tola, ounce, kilogram, baht).
- The result is the pure spot value. Retail counters may add dealer premium, tax and making charges — the number here is the underlying benchmark.
