Gold overtook Uganda's traditional exports to become the country's single largest foreign-exchange earner in 2025, generating over $5.8 billion and accounting for 76.6% of total export earnings. The government has explicitly pushed to stop exporting unprocessed gold, backing the 2025 launch of Euro Gold Refinery Uganda Limited — the country's first fully Ugandan-owned refinery — with plans to move from raw bullion into domestically crafted jewellery under a "Made in Uganda" push.

How we calculate the price
- We fetch the international spot gold price (XAU/USD) live from gold-api.com + xaus.com, with automatic failover between providers.
- The spot rate is converted into the local currency using live exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com, then scaled by purity (24K, 22K, 18K…) and by weight (gram, tola, ounce, kilogram, baht).
- The result is the pure spot value. Retail counters may add dealer premium, tax and making charges — the number here is the underlying benchmark.
