Taiwan's gold trade centres on Bank of Taiwan, the country's largest and state-owned commercial bank, which became the market's dominant wholesaler and distributor after absorbing Central Trust of China (CTC) in 2007 — CTC had originally been the sole government-appointed gold import agent before import restrictions were lifted. Taiwan also uses "cian" (錢) as a traditional local weight unit alongside grams and troy ounces, and Taiwanese jewellery is typically sold at 22K to 24K purity, higher than the 18K standard common in many Western markets.

Methodology
How we calculate the price
- We fetch the international spot gold price (XAU/USD) live from gold-api.com + xaus.com, with automatic failover between providers.
- The spot rate is converted into the local currency using live exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com, then scaled by purity (24K, 22K, 18K…) and by weight (gram, tola, ounce, kilogram, baht).
- The result is the pure spot value. Retail counters may add dealer premium, tax and making charges — the number here is the underlying benchmark.
