View full history →About the Sri Lanka gold market
Sri Lanka restricts individuals from bringing in gold jewellery above 22 karats under a presidential gazette notification, requiring a special permit for anything of higher purity. Hallmarking is carried out solely by the Sri Lanka Assay Office under the National Gem and Jewellery Authority, though Sri Lanka currently holds only "observer" status in the international Hallmarking Convention (alongside Italy and Ukraine), rather than the full membership held by 22 other countries.

Methodology
How we calculate the price
- We fetch the international spot gold price (XAU/USD) live from gold-api.com + xaus.com, with automatic failover between providers.
- The spot rate is converted into the local currency using live exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com, then scaled by purity (24K, 22K, 18K…) and by weight (gram, tola, ounce, kilogram, baht).
- The result is the pure spot value. Retail counters may add dealer premium, tax and making charges — the number here is the underlying benchmark.
