View full history →About the South Korea gold market
A distinctive driver of everyday gold demand in South Korea is "doljanchi," the traditional first-birthday celebration, where guests customarily gift the baby small rings or tokens made of pure 24K gold as a wish for prosperity. This custom creates a steady, culturally rooted demand for small-gram gold pieces year-round, alongside a growing separate market for 24K investment bars traded through the Korea Exchange (KRX) Gold Market.

Methodology
How we calculate the price
- We fetch the international spot gold price (XAU/USD) live from gold-api.com + xaus.com, with automatic failover between providers.
- The spot rate is converted into the local currency using live exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com, then scaled by purity (24K, 22K, 18K…) and by weight (gram, tola, ounce, kilogram, baht).
- The result is the pure spot value. Retail counters may add dealer premium, tax and making charges — the number here is the underlying benchmark.
