View full history →About the Myanmar gold market
Myanmar's gold trade is largely self-regulated by industry associations rather than a formal government standard — refining typically produces about 99% purity, not the "four nines" (99.99%) common internationally, and quality varies by source since standardisation isn't strictly enforced. Local prices are also unusually decoupled from the global market: industry estimates suggest roughly half of Myanmar's domestic gold price movements are driven by local factors rather than international spot-price changes, a far higher local influence than most countries in this dataset.

Methodology
How we calculate the price
- We fetch the international spot gold price (XAU/USD) live from gold-api.com + xaus.com, with automatic failover between providers.
- The spot rate is converted into the local currency using live exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com, then scaled by purity (24K, 22K, 18K…) and by weight (gram, tola, ounce, kilogram, baht).
- The result is the pure spot value. Retail counters may add dealer premium, tax and making charges — the number here is the underlying benchmark.
