About the Malaysia gold market

Malaysia's state-issued "Kijang Emas" gold bullion coin — named after the barking deer depicted on its face — is legal tender, issued by the central bank, Bank Negara Malaysia, in 1oz, ½oz and ¼oz denominations. Jewellery purity, by contrast, is governed separately by the Federation of Goldsmiths and Jewellers Associations of Malaysia (FGJAM) and independent assay houses, with 916 (22K) the dominant standard for retail jewellery.

Methodology

How we calculate the price

  • We fetch the international spot gold price (XAU/USD) live from gold-api.com + xaus.com, with automatic failover between providers.
  • The spot rate is converted into the local currency using live exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com, then scaled by purity (24K, 22K, 18K…) and by weight (gram, tola, ounce, kilogram, baht).
  • The result is the pure spot value. Retail counters may add dealer premium, tax and making charges — the number here is the underlying benchmark.
