View full history →About the Tanzania gold market
All gold exported from Tanzania must first pass assay by the Tanzania Minerals Audit Agency (TMAA), a government body that verifies purity and weight before an export permit is granted — Tanzanian gold typically reaches 99.9% (24K) purity after this process. Beyond mining, Tanzania has become a significant regional refining hub: the Mwanza Precious Metals Refinery alone processes up to 450 tonnes of gold annually, capacity equal to nearly half of Africa's total gold production, positioning Tanzania as a processing centre for gold beyond its own mines.

Methodology
How we calculate the price
- We fetch the international spot gold price (XAU/USD) live from gold-api.com + xaus.com, with automatic failover between providers.
- The spot rate is converted into the local currency using live exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com, then scaled by purity (24K, 22K, 18K…) and by weight (gram, tola, ounce, kilogram, baht).
- The result is the pure spot value. Retail counters may add dealer premium, tax and making charges — the number here is the underlying benchmark.
