Nepal's gold market quotes two distinct grades side by side: "Hallmark" (छापावाल, chhapawal) gold, certified 24-karat at a minimum 99.5% purity by the Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology, and "Tejabi" (तेजाबी) gold, an approximately 22-karat grade traditionally verified using a nitric-acid touchstone test rather than a certified stamp. Both rates are published daily by the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers' Association (FENEGOSIDA), and buyers should confirm which of the two grades a quoted price actually refers to.

How we calculate the price
- We fetch the international spot gold price (XAU/USD) live from gold-api.com + xaus.com, with automatic failover between providers.
- The spot rate is converted into the local currency using live exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com, then scaled by purity (24K, 22K, 18K…) and by weight (gram, tola, ounce, kilogram, baht).
- The result is the pure spot value. Retail counters may add dealer premium, tax and making charges — the number here is the underlying benchmark.
