View full history →About the Kenya gold market
Kenya's gold market includes a formal investment channel through gold-backed exchange-traded funds listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), alongside its traditional jewellery trade centred on Nairobi's Biashara Street. Investment-grade gold bars and qualifying coins are exempt from Kenya's 16% VAT, while gold jewellery is not, and all commercial gold dealers must hold a trading licence from the Ministry of Mining and Blue Economy under the Mining Act, 2016.

Methodology
How we calculate the price
- We fetch the international spot gold price (XAU/USD) live from gold-api.com + xaus.com, with automatic failover between providers.
- The spot rate is converted into the local currency using live exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com, then scaled by purity (24K, 22K, 18K…) and by weight (gram, tola, ounce, kilogram, baht).
- The result is the pure spot value. Retail counters may add dealer premium, tax and making charges — the number here is the underlying benchmark.
