View full history →About the Ghana gold market
Ghana's gold trade is regulated by the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), the state body responsible for assaying and certifying gold before export. Since January 2025, Ghana has required all exported gold to meet a minimum purity of 96%, with a 3% government royalty payable on exports. Historically known as the "Gold Coast," Ghana remains Africa's largest gold producer, and jewellery in cities like Kumasi and Accra is commonly sold at 22K or 24K purity.

Methodology
How we calculate the price
- We fetch the international spot gold price (XAU/USD) live from gold-api.com + xaus.com, with automatic failover between providers.
- The spot rate is converted into the local currency using live exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com, then scaled by purity (24K, 22K, 18K…) and by weight (gram, tola, ounce, kilogram, baht).
- The result is the pure spot value. Retail counters may add dealer premium, tax and making charges — the number here is the underlying benchmark.
