View full history →About the Ecuador gold market
Ecuador's central bank has operated a formal gold acquisition program since 2013, buying doré bars directly from authorised small-scale and artisanal miners, verifying purity through in-house testing before adding the refined gold to the country's international reserves. The program has added over half a billion dollars to Ecuador's reserves to date — an unusual example of a central bank sourcing reserve gold directly from domestic small-scale mining rather than international bullion markets.

Methodology
How we calculate the price
- We fetch the international spot gold price (XAU/USD) live from gold-api.com + xaus.com, with automatic failover between providers.
- The spot rate is converted into the local currency using live exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com, then scaled by purity (24K, 22K, 18K…) and by weight (gram, tola, ounce, kilogram, baht).
- The result is the pure spot value. Retail counters may add dealer premium, tax and making charges — the number here is the underlying benchmark.
