View full history →About the Chile gold market
In Chile, 18-karat gold (75% purity) is colloquially known as "primera ley" ("first-grade" or "first-law" gold) and is the dominant standard for fine jewellery, distinct from the 22K/24K standards common in South Asia and the Middle East. Unlike Spain, Chile has no compulsory state hallmarking law — purity marks are applied voluntarily by jewellers and refiners, so buyers are commonly advised to confirm purity through an independent assay rather than relying solely on a stamped mark.

Methodology
How we calculate the price
- We fetch the international spot gold price (XAU/USD) live from gold-api.com + xaus.com, with automatic failover between providers.
- The spot rate is converted into the local currency using live exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com, then scaled by purity (24K, 22K, 18K…) and by weight (gram, tola, ounce, kilogram, baht).
- The result is the pure spot value. Retail counters may add dealer premium, tax and making charges — the number here is the underlying benchmark.
