About the Azerbaijan gold market

Azerbaijan has a centuries-old jewellery-making tradition centred on several historic production hubs — Baku, Ganja, Shemakha, Shusha, Shaki, and Nakhchivan — each historically known for its own regional styles.

Market notes

Azerbaijan applies a flat 18% VAT to most goods and imports, with no reduced-rate category for gold or jewellery under the country's VAT system -- only the standard and zero rates exist.

Buying gold in Azerbaijan

Because gold and jewellery sellers in Azerbaijan operate under standard tax rules rather than the simplified regime available to smaller businesses, expect full VAT-inclusive pricing and formal documentation on a purchase rather than an informal, undocumented sale.

Tax & duty notes

Azerbaijan's standard 18% VAT applies to gold and jewellery imports and sales, with no reduced or zero rate available for these goods -- Azerbaijan's VAT system only has a standard rate and a zero rate (for exports and specific categories), no gold-specific carve-out.

Methodology

How we calculate the price

  • We fetch the international spot gold price (XAU/USD) live from xaus.com + gold-api.com, with automatic failover between providers.
  • The spot rate is converted into the local currency using live exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com, then scaled by purity (24K, 22K, 18K…) and by weight (gram, tola, ounce, kilogram, baht).
  • The result is the pure spot value. Retail counters may add dealer premium, tax and making charges — the number here is the underlying benchmark.
