View full history →About the Australia gold market
Australia has no compulsory hallmarking law and no government assay offices — gold purity marks are self-applied by manufacturers, similar to the US system. Unlike most markets, Australia's most common standard is 9-karat (375, 37.5% gold), the legal minimum alongside the UK, and notably lower than the 14K/18K/22K standards that dominate most of the world.

Methodology
How we calculate the price
- We fetch the international spot gold price (XAU/USD) live from gold-api.com + xaus.com, with automatic failover between providers.
- The spot rate is converted into the local currency using live exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com, then scaled by purity (24K, 22K, 18K…) and by weight (gram, tola, ounce, kilogram, baht).
- The result is the pure spot value. Retail counters may add dealer premium, tax and making charges — the number here is the underlying benchmark.
