About gold in Mexico
Mexico's gold market is shaped by a distinctive local convention: 10K gold (41.7% fine) is a common purity in everyday Mexican jewellery, alongside the higher 14K and 18K pieces also sold. This differs from the 22K standard common in South Asia or the 24K standard in parts of East Asia, so a Mexican jewellery quote needs its own purity check before comparing fine-gold value. KmalServico's live price reflects 24K (999.9 fine) gold; jewellery purity should be confirmed separately.
Market notes for Mexico
Mexico's national gold bullion coin is the Libertad, minted in 99.9%-fine gold by the government's Casa de Moneda de México across five weights from 1/20 troy ounce up to a full ounce -- a different reference point from the country's common 10K/14K/18K jewellery purities described in this page's market notes.
Buying gold in Mexico
Mexican tax law (Article 2-A, section I(h) of the Ley del Impuesto al Valor Agregado) sets a 0% VAT rate on gold -- including jewellery, ingots, and silverware -- with at least 80% gold content, but that 0% rate specifically applies when the sale is not an ordinary retail sale to the general public. A typical over-the-counter jewellery purchase by an individual consumer may not automatically receive that 0% treatment in practice, so confirm the applicable tax directly with the seller rather than assuming the wholesale-level 0% rate applies to every retail transaction.
Tax and duty notes for Mexico
Article 2-A, section I(h) of Mexico's VAT law (Ley del Impuesto al Valor Agregado), in place since 1994, sets a 0% VAT rate for gold sales -- jewellery, ingots, silverware and ornamental pieces -- with a minimum gold content of 80%, provided the sale isn't conducted as an ordinary retail sale to the general public. The provision exists partly to keep Mexican gold price-competitive internationally: applying Mexico's standard 16% VAT to gold would push domestic prices well above the world benchmark.

Methodology
How we calculate the price
- We fetch the international spot gold price (XAU/USD) live from gold-api.com + xaus.com, with automatic failover between providers.
- The spot rate is converted into the local currency using live exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com, then scaled by purity (24K, 22K, 18K…) and by weight (gram, tola, ounce, kilogram, baht).
- The result is the pure spot value. Retail counters may add dealer premium, tax and making charges — the number here is the underlying benchmark.
